Ask Hayley | decorating kids' rooms - ideas and tips

Bring a room to life with FunToSee™ jumbo wall stickers. Simply peel, stick, decorate…

Welcome to our creative corner. Each month we’ll show you how to transform a different room of the
home with a variety of simple ideas that you and your children can enjoy. As an interiors journalist,
I’m always on the hunt for exciting new ideas for decorating and DIY so once I tried out FunToSee™ stickers
for myself, I couldn’t wait to tell everyone all about them.

You may have seen some of the magazines I write for – titles like Inspirations, Home, House Beautiful and
Your Home. I’m also mum to three-year-old Luis, so I know all about keeping little ones happy. We’d love to
hear from you so send in some snaps of your FunToSee™ room and you may see it here the next time you
click on!

Bye for now

Hayley

This month… CHILDREN’S ROOMS

When it comes to decorating, it’s easy to get bogged down in paint and wallpaper jargon – not to mention wallpaper paste and paint lids that seem to have a mind of their own. With FunToSee™ jumbo wall stickers
and height charts, sticky fingers and multicoloured carpet will be a thing of the past.

  • Stickers are re-usable.
  • Ideal for walls, doors and furniture.
  • Create your own design – each pack has up to 96 individual stickers.
  • One pack covers a whole room.
  • Something for a rainy day...

    • Before you start, have a good clearout and donate any unwanted clothes, toys and books to a charity shop, school, nursery or hospital children’s ward.
    • Move lightweight furniture into the centre of the room and take down any posters or prints from the walls.
    • This is DIY for beginners so dads won’t need to supervise but the more helping hands the better.
    • Choose from Jungle Safari, Undersea Adventure, Funky Flowers or Outer Space theme packs.
    • Pre-cut self-adhesive stickers are easy to apply and you won’t need any tools or glue.
    • Children will love choosing where to place the stickers, creating their own fantasy room in an instant.
    • If you change your mind, simply peel off and start again.
    • Make a photo collage

      • Ask children to choose a selection of their favourite photos – get a good mix of family, friends and fun days out.
      • Take a strong sheet of card – coloured or plain.
      • Do a practice run first so you know where you want to place each photo. Trim and overlap, working from the middle outwards.
      • Stick down with strong glue and mount in a clip frame.

      • Makeover in minutes

      • Cover up tired carpet or bare floorboards with a smart new rug. For boys’ rooms try bold colours like red, blue or orange. Girls tend to like pastel shades so go for powder blue, lemon or pink.
      • Invest in a pop-up storage tube and teach children that tidying up can be fun. Reward them with a fun sticker if they put all their toys and books away.
      • Buy new bedlinen. Ask children to choose their favourite design as this will encourage them to look forward to bedtime.
      • Paint wooden furniture with specialist child-friendly waterbased acrylic, which you can find in DIY stores.

      • Colour therapy

Take our colour psychology test to see if your walls match your personality.

      • RED: Impulsive, athletic, optimistic, stimulating.

        STAR LETTER

Q I’d like to use the Undersea Adventure stickers in the bathroom. Are they water resistant?

        Jennifer Barnes, Nottingham

A Yes they are. All FunToSee™ stickers will resist bathtime splashes. Create an underwater oasis by covering one wall with a dolphin, whale, octopus and seahorse. Or choose individual fish, starfish and bubbles designs and apply to tiles behind the bath, basin or shower. Paint walls in soft aqua shades using a Kitchen & Bathroom paint – available from DIY stores – and team with fluffy blue or green towels and matching shower curtain and window blind.
