This is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make on your child’s behalf. There is usually a choice between state and private schools and some may have a better reputation than others. Don’t just go by others’ opinions – go along to the open day and find out for yourself.
- Start thinking about school when your child is around three as you’ll need time to do your research.
- You can get a list of schools in your area from your local education authority.
- For information on the school itself, call the school and ask for their brochure.
- Talk to other parents and their children and ask their opinions on the school.
- Look at school inspection reports from the Office For Standards in Education (OFSTED) – you can get these from the school, library or on-line at www.ofsted.gov.uk
