Once the New Year is underway, there’s not usually much money left in the pot for decorating but if you’re keen to give
your child’s room a fresh new look there are plenty of inexpensive ways to cheer it up.
You could take everything out of the room and start again. Even something as simple as moving furniture around can give the room a brand new perspective. Find new places for pictures, lamps and rugs, too.
Get creative and have fun helping children make their own artwork: take some sturdy cardboard – white or coloured – and use sample pots of paint to make up an abstract piece of art. Or design a collage effect with torn up pieces of tissue paper. If you want to frame it before hanging, clip frames can be bought fairly cheaply in art shops and stationers.

If you can lay your hands on them, the fairy lights from the Christmas tree would look great strung around the bed frame, window or mirror.
And if you have any paint left over from previous decorating jobs, why not paint walls in different colours or create a funky striped effect?
