When it comes to dressing windows, there are many options to choose from.
Curtains can be bought off the peg with a variety of themes that can be co-ordinated with matching duvet cover, pillow, rug, cushion and lampshade. Your curtain rail will dictate whether you opt for tab-top or pencil pleat headers. If you prefer to go down the made-to-measure route, it can be more expensive but is ideal if you have particularly small or large windows.
Some companies offer an express service if you’re in a hurry but this will cost extra.
For girls’ rooms, take your pick from dusky pink and raspberry fabrics with pretty floral motifs. Boys’ rooms look great in all shades of blue including denim, duck egg and sky.

Roman blinds can be made in a wide range of fabrics with a plain or tab-headed top and straight or pleated border. Roller blinds give a clean, simple look and come in a range of patterns and colours.
The most important thing to consider is to choose a heavy or lined fabric to reduce light. Blackout lining is particularly effective. Avoid pull-cords or tags hanging from the bottom, as these can be a safety hazard in a children’s room.
