With a Bank Holiday weekend coming up on 29th May now’s the time to plan ahead for fun days out with the family. And with the sun finally starting to shine, there should be plenty of warm weekends to enjoy too.
- Take a trip on the train. Children will love the experience and grown-ups will enjoy not having the stress of heavy traffic and parking! Make sure you take a timetable with you and ask about half-price ticket offers to local attractions if you travel by train.
- Jump in the car and head for the beach or countryside, taking a picnic with you. Go somewhere you’ve never been before and have an adventure seeing something new.
- Visit a zoo or animal park - www.zoowatch.freeserve.co.uk has details of your nearest one.
- Museums are a great source of education and entertainment in one.
- Organise an alfresco lunch at your nearest country park. Their information office should be able to tell you if they have BBQ facilities otherwise pack a picnic and invite a large group of family and friends. Take a variety of balls, cricket bats and tennis racquets to keep children happy and remember sunhats and sun cream if the weather’s nice.
- Hold a sports day for the children and their friends. You could have it in your garden or the local park. Running, egg and spoon and a three-legged race are great fun. Make medals for everyone who takes part and remember to take your camera!
- If you really need to get those DIY jobs done, give the children easy tasks to do – it makes them feel independent and involved and they can be a great help.
