For a great day out for the whole family, check out the National Trust’s website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk where you’ll find a directory of properties and activities in your area.
Stick some music on and have your own disco with the children. Let yourself relax and unwind and join in the giggling as you practise those moves.
If you’re thinking about redecorating in the coming months, start a mood board to provide inspiration. Collect cuttings and photos of interesting colours, fabrics and patterns and stick them into a scrapbook or onto a sturdy piece of A3 sized card. Magazines and brochures are a good source of pictures.

Suggest the children make up a puppet show or perform a play. You could give them characters and a story and let them use your coats, hats, scarves and gloves as their dressing-up kit.
If it’s windy and blustery outside, why not go to the seaside for an alternative day on the beach. Take a picnic and wrap up warm and enjoy a bracing walk by the sea.
Get some exercise and take the whole family swimming. It’s so good for you as well as being great fun and is the perfect activity for a rainy day.
Sit down with the children and choose some new recipes to make together. You may have some treasured cookery books to browse through or go online and print off your favourites. Try www.annabelkarmel.com or www.nigella.com
